Tired but not defeated

The move here in Cambodia is a good thing, right? No, this is not a depressed entry. Yep, it seems the blogs I've been reading lately confirms that everybody is busy. Although I'm having very bad skin now cause I was using Neutrogena for a while coz I couldn't find Cetaphil in major drugstore in this country! Imagine I found in one of those dingy drugstore that sells traditional herbal medicines. Weird. So anyway my bad skin is due to lack of sleep, stress and just basically the overall dusty and dry weather here in Siem Reap. Rainy season is like 15minutes tops. They don't have earthquakes, no typhoon, no floods. But they have Polpot. Check Google. Horrible history they have here. It's like the whole country was trapped in time and the 70's to boot. Everybody wears long sleeve button down with pleated slacks (hahahahaha!) and sandals. Baduy chic. Nakakaloka! Not that all of them are un-chic. Meron naman na chic and it's a good thing because Khmers are naturally skinny. My gosh! Dior Homme-ish. Especially the bi-racial Khmers, nakakaloka ang cheekbones and bone structure. They are very Ria Bolivar thin and tall. You get to see them riding the bikes, selling stuff or mostly working in hotels. Siem Reap is like tourist central for Cambodia. Hmmm...

Hay, can't wait for my Christmas presents to arrive. hehehehe.

My friend Loven said we're having dinner with kababayans at Sugar Palm which serves the best authentic yet Western presented Khmer food in Siem Reap. So I said that will be cool. Anyway, Loven fetched me from work and we proceeded to the resto. We got inside and then I saw a couple of gals and I thought one of them was really familiar looking. So anyway, the usual introduction, then we ordered. They said they were Jill and Pam. Hmmm... Halfway through our dinner I still couldn't pin down where I saw Pam. I couldn't stop myself so I asked if she knows Ms. CZVS. Boom! And I remember it. Pam was in Ms. Chuvaness' blog! Small world. Ang kulit. Apres dinner I treated them for ice cream and toured them at de la Paix. I won't say the details about what we talked about but it ran from Ruffa, Raymond Guttierez( very juicy!) to Tim Yap to Lomo to Trillanes. Fun gals. I invited them to the opening of this new exhibition I'm curating on Friday.

We were at this chic cafe, my co-worker Secar and I.

She ordered her food and I ordered mine.

Secar told the new cafe attendant to wrap her order to go.

The attendant guy got out of the counter and went to the newspapers lying in one corner of the cafe. He tore one page of the International Herald Tribune and got back behind the counter.

Secar and I looked at each other.

The guy wrapped her food with the newspaper!

Seafood

There was a commotion at the hotel restaurant yesterday. I was told the chef was having an 'issue' with her local staff.

Apparently, one of the customers requested a meal set without seafood. She was allergic to anything 'seafood'. The chef got wind of this and requested a local staff to remove one of the fish dish included in the meal set.

The staff wouldn't follow her instruction and even argued with her.

It perplexed the chef and could not figure it out why.

Then the explanation.

The staff told her the fish was not 'sea food'.

It came from the lake.

Food, glorious food! If I check what I've been eating I can see that I've eaten a fairly large amount of feta cheese, shrimp, pasta and vegetables for the past weeks. Being pesco vegetarian is slightly easy here in Siem Reap. But the desserts make it hard for me to lose weight and I'm telling you that people here make the best desserts ever from ice cream to molten chocolate cakes. I don't fancy chocolates much but here I really reconsidered. Will blog about desserts next time.

Magazine Overload

I'm a magazine freak. I spend lots of my measly cash on magazines. I don't know why but you can make me happy by giving me the latest fashion rags like Vogue, Bazaar, self service, numero, etc. So when I got here in Siem Reap I was really disappointed that the only decent bookstore that sells magazine is closed. They will open very soon. I've been here a month already and they were supposed to open last October. Hello people of National Museum mall! But anyway, friends and caring people brought me some mags. Is it me or I'm just a magnet for magazines. My loot:

Tech-y Day

Didn't i say i just need time to adjust? Well, today has been a wonderful day. and before i forget let me tell you that today is World AIDS Day. So be safe than be sorry! Anyway, I had to go back to the Arts Lounge (the gallery I'm working as a curator) because one of our photography exhibit got sold. I had to be there to prepare its packing. Apres, I was itching for some retail therapy so I asked Mali (the guy who is assigned to bring me to work everyday) if he knows any 'ukay' places. It turned out that the best ukay stalls just sell their wares near the river. So we went there and I was ecstatic! My loot includes:

2.Dior Homme shirt (pre Hedi Slimane but could pass as his)

3.a skinny tie which i gave to Loven

5.Ciride hooded top

6.Nina Ricci shirt which I gave to Mali

After lunch, Loven and I went to Siam phones to have our identical phones because it sucked big time with its design. We had the same problem that whenever someone calls us and we answer, the number 6 and 5 blips endlessly in the screen. It's scary! Imagine having 666 in your phone screen. Anyway, if you know me I don't give a hoot what number (nokia whatever) or features my phone has. As long as it looks good on me I'm ok with it. It has this chic leather case. Very slim with metal body. So it's sleek which makes me happy. Loven got another slimmin phone that's also nice. We also got two water heater because it gets cold here in the morning already. Freezer, winter cold. Imagine I was wearing my Ann Demeulemeester leather jacket at 11am and i'm not sweatin. We also bought a new ref and we also had wiFi installed in the house(That's why I'm blogging now at this hour). It's electronic shopping today.hehehe I popped at Rep while I was waiting for the ref and heater to be packed and a cute Dior Homme shirt is for sale at 50% off. Hmmmm. Should I? One piece left. Also some Dolce&Gabbana and some Burberry.

Didn't go out for dinner but cooked vegetable couscous, fried pink salmon and tuna with onions. Yummy dinner!

Plan to go to Phnom Penh next Friday. Hmmm...I'l be shopping Vivienne Westwood.

So there, my day.
