Siem Reap Suitcase Sale : some stuff

Still my ongoing report about the Siem Reap Suitcase Sale. I was just talking to some friends this morning and they were bummed that they didn't go yesterday. I remember seeing some Libertine in one of the suitcases, a couple of Subversive accessories and other wonderful stuff. I can't wait for the next one I'm telling you. I still got plenty of stuff to unload actually. There was a group of Japanese girls who were snapping up some Lowry's Farm, Uniqlo, etc. Before I share my loot, here's some stuff I saw on the sale:

Siem Reap Suitcase Sale

My friend Eliz and moi got to talking one day and we thought it was a great idea to have a garage/flea market event in the 'Alley', the area where her store, Wanderlust, was located (we will be neighbors soon!).

She got to talking with Loven and the next thing you know we were inviting our friends for the first ever Siem Reap Suitcase Sale.

It was so exciting! I was selling my clothes for 2 pieces a dollar. Needless to say I was swamped with eager buyers.

My friend Vince helped me mind the merchandise of Loven and Sarah. He was also shopping and nabbed a really cool shades, a tee from Germany, a couple of graphic tops and other junks.

Everyone was in good spirit. Eliz played some cool tunes from her iPod. There was a part there when everyone started grooving and dancing to the music.

Loven was offering his bag samples, candle holders and dvd's for swap or sell.

"Will change 10 DVD's for Paris Hilton's sex video!" cracked everyone.

Sarah offered gently worn shoes like her Giordano Concepts sneakers (it would have been mine if it fitted me!). She also unloaded some of her winter clothes which bafflingly enough a number got snapped up! So if I see somebody wearing a fur trimmed dress here in Siem Reap I know where they got it.

Pot brownies, beer cakes and an assorted of cupcakes were also sold. Tennis rackets, Angkor What t-shirts, gaming consoles, wristwatches, old books, wooden shoes, postcards, everything and anything except the kitchen sink were sold.

The accessories corner of Eliz's junk was very popular. She was selling accessories from Kate Spade, Subversive by Justine Guinta, Gucci, etc. all priced between $2- $5! Dirt cheap! I got a few items from there that I will post in the next entry.

We plan to have another one in March.

Angkor Trade Festival

Traders and selected shops gathered recently in the Raffles garden to showcase their wares and merchandise. There were few that caught my attention. One of those was this booth selling fabrics and clothes in natural dye and cotton.

They have cute children's clothes.

Very Eairth lite. I almost bought that stripe pants on the right.

They have a cute tepee set-up...

which was a big hit with our little dragon emperor. It retails for $150.

Needless to say, it was a cooperative run by Japanese. I will be using their fabrics in my future collections.

Another booth that got me excited is this one which sells rugs made of cotton refuse from garment manufacturers.

The colors were amazing. It's made in Poipet which is the border town before going to Bangkok. Loven is thinking of using them for some furniture designs because the rugs are so plush. And washable too since it's made of cotton.

The only stuff I got was this knitted scarf from another booth selling small accessories. Can't wait to use it when the cold spell comes again.

Pumpkin Salad with Goat Blue Cheese and Honey Dressing

Pan Fried Seabass with Winter Melon and Goat Cheese Risotto

The salad is tangy sweet and the pumpkin is so divine, and I don't even like pumpkin. The seabass has this very clean and clear taste. Paired with the savory risotto, it balances the salty sweet flavor of the fish.

You should try it!

One Shop: the departure

Not totally, mind you, but only the clothes. Yes, the reason being I'l have to keep a secret for now. Something exciting and BIGGER is coming our way, hopefully, first week of March.

I'm quite terrified and at the same time feeling edgy about it. Will talk more about it soon. ;)

Doing i-D

i-D magazine is devoting its March 2009 cover to 12 of its model citizen from the past to the supers to the current crop like Agyness Deyn and Jourdan Dunn. My fave of course is the cover with Stella Tennant, possibly the coolest aristo-punk looking model of all times. She said it well when she declared 'I don't really fit the box'. Everytime I design I think I'm designing for those people who don't fit the box. I know I feel that way myself. Anyhoot, here's some of the other covers:

Not a fan of Jourdan but she's prototypical. Is Alek Wek British? I think she is. There's really no one like her.

Lily is another model I'm not so hot about. I mean, she's pretty and all but I don't find her edgy enough. And most of the time she looks tired. I don't like tired looking models.

Fashion Diary: Team Manila Rizal shirt

I love Team Manila. It's my first that I actually own but I've gotten lots from them for pasalubongs and gifts. I'm surprised the pique cotton fabric is so comfy for this shirt.

A hip Rizal. It actually garnered lots of attention from my co-workers when they learned it's the Philippines' national hero.

Paired it with my DP cropped, cuffed pants and Fred Perry sneakers.

And of course my current loved bag, the CDG x H&M polka dot goodness.

Fashion Diary: Plantation blazer

I love my Plantation blazer. 'Blazer', so 80's, no? I paired it with a Zara tee which you really can't see except a brief flash of the red lightning glitter on the chest area.

The jacket is very folkloric to me. It has fish prints.

I want to buy another Levi's 501 coz I love the fit on me. My CDG x H&M bag completes my look. I was wearing my leather Muji sneakers. I should have bought another pair. Tsk, tsk!
