So yun na nga, I didn't attend Gibo's birthday. Mahaba ang istorya kung i-explain ko pa kung bakit basta alam ko pauwi na sila ng mag-text ako kung pwede pa bang humabol. It was a Sunday ang birthday party pero actually Monday talaga ang birthday nya. Di pa yata alas-dose eh nagsiuwian na ang kanyang mga bisita. Marami daw pumuntang mga bloggers.
Kebs.
Anyway, nagtampo bigtime si Gibo sa akin.
'Honey, I really wanted to be there for you but then I was really tied up with work.'
'Tse', sagot nya.
I asked him to have lunch with me at Cibo, my treat. Buti naman naintindihan ni Gibo ang situation ko. Isa pa I was in SMX, sila sa Quezon City. Kailangan ko pa yata ng passport para pumunta doon. He agreed to have lunch with me pero syempre pinahirapan nya muna ako.
Nagmeet nga kami sa Cibo. It's such a good thing kasi na-solo ko sya and syempre marami syang kwento. At yun nga birthday nya talaga that Monday.
Naku napaka-juicy ng mga kwento nya. Kung pwede ko lang sanang i-tsika rin dito pero I know and you know na may mga lurkers dito sa blog ko na makakati rin ang dila kaya wag na!
And that's the thing with Gibo. Wala syang concept ng diet dahil he loves food. Whereas, Kawadjan would feign desdain over something remotely carbs, kahit pa gum lang ito, si Gibo naman is all for food trip. Kaladkarin kasi ako so when Im with Gibo super eat ako. When I'm with Kawadjan eh daig pa namin ang Death March from Bataan.
Deliciousness ang Tiramisu ni Margarita Fores! It has been my fave for so many years.
Although pareho kaming lahat na splurge sa gamit. Mahilig kaming magshopping! Dun kami bonding na tatlo and our love for traveling. Basta iba kasama si Gibo at Kawadjan. I'm so happy na supermega friends ko sila.
And speaking of shopping, na-late lang ako ng 15 minutes eh nakabili na si Gibo ng sapatos sa Zara. Maganda. Bagay sa white button down shirt and jeans nya. I guess he was aiming for that haciendera/Ting Ting Cojuangco look. It comes with age naman kasi when nahihilig ka na talaga sa mga matronics look pero in fairness kay Gibo ang effect eh Mikee Cojuangco naman. Iba nga naman talaga nagagawa ng Lab Series. May embalming effect. Masubukan nga yan.
Did I mention I also went ukay hunting in Phnom Penh? You know me, ukay hunting is one of my de-stressing activities.
I dragged my friend David to check out Japan Thrift Shop which I discovered when I was browsing a local magazine. Sushality ang ukay dito they have adverts sa magazines. The first time I visited this store I found a Comme des Garcons Homme Plus tee. David got a Yves Saint Laurent leather jacket. Our friend Valerie (sisterhhod member also), a size 2, got a bagful of Katharine Hamnett, Courreges and other cool brands. Faith, another friend, got me an Issey Miyake while David on his last visit found an Andy Warhol tee for moi. In other words, may future!
I was really aiming to get the best pieces since I was traveling and I couldn't risk adding more weight to my already overloaded baggage. So I had to chuck some pieces from Koji Tatsuno TRACE, Storm and W<. I had to leave behind a Modern Amusement sweater to Dave because I couldn't let go of it. I was in Hong Kong when I fell in love with Modern Amusement and their cute graphics.

The one thing that got me so excited is Japanese label called Gomme. Alam mo naman ako and my obsession with Japanese designers. Gomme is designed by Hiroshige Maki, a former design assistant for Yohji Yamamoto for 10 years. He graduated from the Fashion College of Nagoya. In 1986 he conquered the Japanese market with great success and is an expert in handling silk, plisse and other materials that skim the body.
That's the thing with Japanese designs, you have to wear it to understand the beauty of it. Sometimes it's just the feel of the fabric. Sometimes the little details. Like this gomme with its Peter Pan collar and the softest cotton ever. My black top is also another Japanese brand called Whereabouts.
What have you ukay-ed lately?
Finally, nagkita na kami ni Titser May! Earlier, apres Starbucks and exchange gift portion (read post here) we checked out Homme et Femme for good luck. I wanted to check if they've got a Margiela AIDS tee (20th anniv edition. Meron and I got one the next day) So while I was checking Margiela and friends, Titser May was looking at the Marni rack. Syempre, we snickered at the prices and hoped we could nab some Marni or something, hehehe.
So nag-ukay na kami after H et F. To tell you frankly I didn't know what to expect. It took me a lot of time to find something decent. Chaca ang selections. I'm there for the cool brands and not some preppy selections. Lacoste, isdatchu?

Kala ko nga walang future. But in one of the racks I found this APOC piece by Issey Miyake. The Issey Miyake line is now designed by another designer but in recent years Issey has been concentrating on his APOC line. It means A Piece Of Cloth. Keri lang yung piece at P100.
Marami talaga kaming nakita like Calvin Klein, Muller, Vivienne Westwood pero we thought na mahal silang lahat. Heller P320! We found some size 0 DVF and Katharine Hamnett na super love ng previous owner kaya mukhang basahan na. But sa P50 rack I found something that made my blood rush to my head. Super excited with my find I asked Titser May to fit it.

Naysayers of Cubao, kamusta naman ang P50 Marni ko?
Bagay rin kay Titser may, no?
In the P20 rack I found this black Sportmax knit top with tulle detail which I got for my friend Fate. Off shoulder style.

Overjoyed, we transferred to another ukayan and was lucky kasi mukhang bago lahat ng damit. Don't ask me kung saan yun dahil I wouldn't know. I don't think that place has a name pa. Basta it's in Cubao. Sa dalawang rack lang na I checked I found pieces that would complete half of my fall/winter shirt requirement (chos!):

Comme des Garcons Homme Plus

Issey Miyake

Comme des Garcons Shirt

Junya Watanabe Comme des Garcons

Issey Miyake

Y's Yohji Yamamoto

Y-3 Yohji Yamamoto
10 designer pieces. I had to let go of some other pieces kasi baka ma-overweight ako sa eroplano. Actually na overweight nga ako, hehehe. Wag nyo nang itanong kung magkano damage sa akin basta di pa sya kalahati sa presyo ng Margiela AIDS tee and you couldn't buy a Junya Watanabe at that price kahit 90% off pa sya.
Like I said, ukay is not for the faint hearted and Cubao is no exception. Kung maarte ka eh umuwi ka na lang. It's dusty, mainit at mahirap i navigate. But then it rewards those who persevere. Call it lucky streak or beginners luck pero I call it being wise. Kasama ko kasi ang ukay queen ng Cubao so she knows her stores.
Guys, di ko pa nacheck ang pants, bags and shoes. That means marami pang treasures ang naiwan dun. The dresses nakakita ako ng Gaultier, Agnes B., Betsey Johnson, etc. I think Titser May got a BCBG Max Azria soft jacket. Basta may future ang Cubao. Kung may time nga lang I'm sure I could have found some more kaya lang we all need to go na rin to our respective appointments.
We ate at Teriyaki Boy at the nearby Gateway Mall. Basta I had a blast with Titser May. Next time we are wrecking havoc sa ibang ukay places pa.
I did ukay in Iloilo, also. Gusto nyong makita?
Moi. Marni top over Gaspard Yurkeivich tank. Ukay shorts. Tina Daniac wooden chain necklace, DP gladiators and Longchamp bag.
My friends Mark, Jaki P. and Bo Parcon.
Apres the PFW fashion show one Friday evening we trooped to Nono Palmos' atelier for his birthday party. One of his guest is Rachelle Ann Go.
I think Bo made dresses for her and she has Ilonggo roots. Nono is Ilonggo, too. Taga Miag-ao where you can see the Unesco World Heritage protected church, one of the oldest churches in Asia.
Nono, PJ Aranador, the son of Gary Valenciano and Rachelle.
Nono is one of those reclusive senior designers. Super private and he lets only a few people into his circle. I'm so glad Nono is such a friend. Super nice and generous. Happy Birthday Nono!
Jujiin Samonte. You know this guy is so influential coz there's a lot of mini-Jujiin I've seen at PFW. So funny. But the thing the others missed is that the guy really lives and breath his style 24/7. It's not just for PFW only or any fashion event but everyday. I really admire his style.
Prada girl. So sowee I forgot her name. Anyone can id her?
