Mega Style Annual

"Don Protasio's amalgamation of monastic and futuristic references was superbly executed in form of trapeze-cut tops made out of vintage barong materials paired with silver lamé jodhpur pants. We loved his fusion of references and the very understated details he employed to point out his inspirations. "My collection is based on religion and futurism, utilizing jusi and vintage barong materials for simple A-line shapes."

January Reads 1

I'm a magazine junky and I think the whole hotel knows about it already since I've bugged them to bring me some whenever they go out of the country like Bangkok. Our GM, Nick, usually brings me lots of magazines.

I was pleasantly surprised that day when I had this Quintessentiall Wicked magazine lying on my table. Well, it happened to come from the bestest Sales Director in the whole wide world, Noelene. She said the magazine was very me except I think couldn't afford to buy whatever is featured in there right now. Sob! Huhuhuhu! Oh, well I'll just dream about it since it's free.

Also, Junko, our Japanese Guest Relations gave me the latest Touchstone because there are Khmer artists featured inside. How sweet! I swear the people here in the hotel are so thoughtful.

January reads and boring day

I'm still waiting for my US Vogue Jan. 08 issue.

Which is weird because I have the American Vogue Dec. 07. Just got it this month...

and I also have the Australian Vogue Feb. 08, a month ahead. I love Australian Vogue, they feature sensible clothes and they rarely include those fantastical pieces that is prevalent in US Vogue. It's like US Vogue is your old, rich aunt while OZ Vogue is your cool, tomboy cousin

And Arena Homme, Jan. 08, is black sheep Brit-Pinoy cousin you have who's studying at Central Saint Martin's.

French Photo is your French neighbor who likes women, naked and usually, supermodels.

Lifestyle and Travel is your flight attendant best friend.

The Magazine is your Thai socialite client

The Magazine is another one of your Thai socialite client. TSC1 and TSC2 are best friends.

Luxury Properties is your real estate agent who sells you properties a.) you can't afford, b.) is located in some magnificent location but requires owning a helicopter, a speedboat or a yatch, and c.) did i mention everything is expensive?


Boring Day

I had to go to the bank and get my credit card and change my pin number.

Then I had a quick brunch of...um, this dish called 'coulebac', bread roll with mushroom, spinach, rice, herbs and fish inside. It was yummy, i swear!

Then I went to the press to have something printed for the gallery.

This is Heng big, the technician there. There is also a Heng medium and a Heng small working there. Heng must be a popular name in Cambodia.

Seeing through the lenses of edgy-cool Marc Nicdao, we witness fashion pandemonium as the future stars of design pair with fashion's freshest faces. Each designer was given cultural tribes as inspiration.

"Don strikes us with his deconstructed aesthetics and with his fidelity to couture principles. Now based in Cambodia, we will surely miss this ingénue's bold interpretation of forward yet ultra-functional fashion.




What was your inspiration and how did you choose to interpret it such that readers are able to respond and relate to your vision?
The inspiration was the people of the Andes region and the Incas. I interpreted the knits and fabric of their garbs by enlarging the thread that I used. It was just a simple knitted top paired with a slim cut pants. It's modern but slightly ethnic flavored at the same time.

How did you fuse the inspiration assigned and your personal design sensibilities in this outfit?
I'm a ready-to-wear designer. I like the versatility of clothes that can be incorporated into one's existing wardrobe. I think I design pieces rather than singular outfits.

What look or attribute best describes your designs?
They are quirky.

What is a non-negotiable in design?
Quality should not be compromised.

Who is your ideal client?
Everyone who wants to consider my vision and proposition when it comes to dressing.

How is this particular editorial an ideal platform for you to showcase your abilities as a designer?
This editorial allowed me to show that I can do wearable clothes inspired by powerful concepts.
