Phnom Penh ukay : gomme find

Did I mention I also went ukay hunting in Phnom Penh? You know me, ukay hunting is one of my de-stressing activities.

I dragged my friend David to check out Japan Thrift Shop which I discovered when I was browsing a local magazine. Sushality ang ukay dito they have adverts sa magazines. The first time I visited this store I found a Comme des Garcons Homme Plus tee. David got a Yves Saint Laurent leather jacket. Our friend Valerie (sisterhhod member also), a size 2, got a bagful of Katharine Hamnett, Courreges and other cool brands. Faith, another friend, got me an Issey Miyake while David on his last visit found an Andy Warhol tee for moi. In other words, may future!

I was really aiming to get the best pieces since I was traveling and I couldn't risk adding more weight to my already overloaded baggage. So I had to chuck some pieces from Koji Tatsuno TRACE, Storm and W<. I had to leave behind a Modern Amusement sweater to Dave because I couldn't let go of it. I was in Hong Kong when I fell in love with Modern Amusement and their cute graphics.

The one thing that got me so excited is Japanese label called Gomme. Alam mo naman ako and my obsession with Japanese designers. Gomme is designed by Hiroshige Maki, a former design assistant for Yohji Yamamoto for 10 years. He graduated from the Fashion College of Nagoya. In 1986 he conquered the Japanese market with great success and is an expert in handling silk, plisse and other materials that skim the body.

That's the thing with Japanese designs, you have to wear it to understand the beauty of it. Sometimes it's just the feel of the fabric. Sometimes the little details. Like this gomme with its Peter Pan collar and the softest cotton ever. My black top is also another Japanese brand called Whereabouts.

What have you ukay-ed lately?
